MODULAR CHANNEL MODEL 8755DM

Stereo Preamp/Filter/EQ/Compressor/Harmonics/Drive


The Overstayer Modular Channel Stereo 8755DM is a versatile stereo Mic/Line and instrument channel strip designed for tracking and mixing, offering anything from subtle layered enhancement to complete sonic destruction. It features high-pass and low-pass filters, three-band equalization, VCA compression, harmonics and a comprehensive mixer matrix for sophisticated series and parallel mixing.

The preamp lets you choose between a balanced line, microphone and high-impedance inputs to accommodate your requirements as a tracking or mixing tool. The Preamp provides more than 40dB of gain using discrete circuitry with independent left and right controls.

The balanced line signal can be routed through the preamp to drive the front end. Direct outputs are provided at the preamp stage and can be used independently with Line input selected.

The following filter section provides resonant high-pass and low-pass filters inspired by synthesizer filters that offer control over the frequency response and its resonance. A three-band EQ with sweepable mid and low and high shelves augments this. Three frequency points for each band are provided to shape the sound quickly. The EQ can be used in the main signal, the compression side-chain, and the Dry/EQ Feed.

The VCA Compressor provides a choice between Peak and RMS. Attack and Release controls have three positions for each, and a side-chain HPF is also provided. The Behavior knob transforms the compression curve and gives you a wide range of options from smooth leveling to explosive mayhem thanks to its use of inverted ratios.

The Harmonics section comprises three stages and can be engaged in any combination from the subtle M-A-S low order harmonics, SAT for a more obvious saturated sound, to the Hex mode, which provides higher harmonics and layered distortion.

Finally, a powerful Mixer Matrix lets you send independent stereo feeds before the filter or after the EQ. In contrast, the Comp Feed lets you send the signal out pre-harmonics, while the Sat Feed gives you the full flavor of the entire signal path.

M-A-S MODEL 8101

Multi Analog Stage Harmonics

The Overstayer M-A-S was designed to be an analog ‘more’ control. More color, more harmonics, more tone. It gives you the harmonic character and peak rounding of classic recording and mixing chains in a simple, highly controllable rack-mount unit.

The limiting nature of the M-A-S stages rounds and bends peaks resulting in increased apparent volume, without the timing artifacts associated with compression. Its integrated pushbutton High and Low EQ presets, High Pass Filter and Emphasis circuits help further shape the harmonic content of source material. Rotary switch controls for Mix and Output make settings easy to recall.

Use it on the individual tracks for cumulative (console to tape like) benefits. The M-A-S can add consistency as peaks and harsh transients get smoothed and absorbed into the performance, making balancing tracks in the mix easier, and lessening the need for bus limiting down the line. Used on a full mix, the added harmonic content can energize, and add cohesiveness and detail. The Mix control allows the character to be balanced to taste.

VCA Peak Limiter/Compressor

The Overstayer Stereo Voltage Control Model 3722 is like having and entire mixing signal chain in a single rack space. It goes beyond the capabilities of a typical compressor/limiter and enables new sonic possibilities while streamlining workflow.

The SVC combines the gain control and punch of VCA gain cells, the warmth and character of our discrete analog Harmonics circuitry, and the sculpting power of an ultra-smooth 2-band shelving EQ. The SVC has dynamics control from fast peak limiting to smooth RMS compression, with multiple starting ratios and a Behavior control to create new and unique envelopes. Use the LEVEL control to drive into Harmonics to further bend transient peaks, adding musical harmonic color and cohesiveness as well as increasing apparent volume. The EQ and filters allow you to shape and drive as much low warmth or smooth top presence as desired. Each of its multiple stages can add its character and harmonics, cumulatively transforming the signal in a way not normally possible within a single device.

The integrated blend control allows even aggressive settings to be balanced tastefully. You can further create custom compression shaping by using the sidechain high-pass filter for low end response, or even further by using the external sidechain insert.

STEREO FIELD EFFECT MODEL 3706

FET Limiter/Compressor

The Overstayer Stereo Field Effect Model 3706 Limiter/Compressor is an evolution of our passion for FET compressors and classic analog recording chains. The Stereo Field Effect, or SFE, is a stereo unit with ganged controls that combines compression and limiting, with analog tone shaping and harmonics stages to evoke the tonality of a classic analog recording and mixing chain.

Classic FET ratios, as well as subtle low and hard limit ratios, allow the balance of compression to harmonics to be tailored, while wide-ranging attack and release options allow the envelope to shape exactly what hits the harmonics stages. The integrated sidechain filter and tone shaping of the discrete harmonics stages allows the signal to remain full even with large amounts of gain reduction. The Nonlinear mode engages an alternate aggressive personality, giving you new and unique dynamic textures.
